Open WebUI adds session analytics and multipage notes
Open WebUI 0.12.5 shipped a Sessions tab in Admin Analytics and pages within notes. For builders, the immediate question is whether the new session detail helps them inspect the chat workflows they operate.
In short
- Sessions provide filters and saved tool-call detail when admin chat access is on.
- Notes gain pages, subpages and a way to locate another person in an open note.
- Generated and edited images are saved in a selected chat terminal’s working folder.
What shipped
The new Sessions tab lists chats with their token counts, responses, errors and time spans. Administrators can filter by search, model, token range or sub-agents. Opening a session shows saved replies and tool calls, including their timing and outcome, when ENABLE_ADMIN_CHAT_ACCESS is on. That condition matters: the release note does not present saved chat detail as visible regardless of the setting. [1][2]
Notes now hold multiple pages and subpages. From the page tabs, users can add, rename, reorder, move, download, link to or delete pages. Search results and the model work with notes page by page. A note also shows who else has it open; selecting a person takes you to the page and spot where they are working. These are changes to both the structure of a note and how people find activity within it. [1][2]
There is a separate change for image work in a chat with a selected terminal. Generated and edited images are now also saved to that terminal’s working folder. The selected terminal is part of the stated behavior. The excerpt does not say that images from every chat are written to a terminal folder. [1]
Why it matters if you build
If I were investigating a chat that produced an error, I would start with the Sessions filters, then inspect that chat’s saved replies and tool-call outcomes. The time span and timing could help me identify which recorded step to examine first. Before relying on that view, I would decide whether turning on ENABLE_ADMIN_CHAT_ACCESS fits the deployment’s requirements. The supplied material names that setting as a condition for seeing saved replies and tool calls; it does not define retention, finer-grained access controls or an analytics export path. [1][2]
For a team keeping working material in notes, pages and subpages offer a way to separate topics without treating each note as one continuous document. Page-level search and model access make the page a useful unit to test in a real workflow. Presence and the jump to another person’s spot help locate where someone is working. I would try those actions with an existing shared note before reorganizing a larger collection. The excerpt does not establish migration behavior, concurrent-edit conflict rules or performance limits; that is a reason to test, not evidence that those features fail. [1][2]
If an image workflow already uses a selected chat terminal, the new folder placement may remove a manual step before further work on the image. I would check the resulting file in the terminal’s working folder rather than assume a particular path or naming rule. The supplied excerpt also leaves behavior without a selected terminal unspecified. [1]
How to try it today
- Open Admin Analytics and inspect the Sessions tab’s time span, responses, errors and tokens for a chat.
- Filter by model or sub-agents, then inspect saved replies and tool-call timing and outcomes with ENABLE_ADMIN_CHAT_ACCESS on.
- Add a page and subpage to a note; rename, reorder and link a page, then check page-level search.
- Open the same note with another person and use presence to jump to their page and spot.
- Select a terminal in a chat, generate or edit an image, and check its working folder.

Every claim below was walked down the source ladder. The rung is how close the source is to the thing itself; the tense is the source's own.

What is not confirmed
The supplied material does not establish analytics retention or export, finer-grained controls on administrator access to saved chat content, concurrent-edit conflict handling in notes, or image naming and placement without a selected terminal. Do not treat the presence indicator as a promise of conflict-free collaboration, or the Sessions tab as a complete audit system, on this evidence alone. [1][2][3][4]
Who should act, who should wait
Act now if you administer Open WebUI chats and can assess the admin chat access setting against your requirements, or if your team needs page-level organization and presence in notes. Test the specific session and note flows before broader adoption. Wait on a policy or workflow change that requires retention rules, detailed access controls, conflict behavior or image storage rules the release note does not define. For terminal-based image work, try the selected-terminal path first rather than assuming the same placement applies to every chat. [1][2][3][4][5]
